What cavers in Georgia dream of…(see FULL SIZE) This photo is one of these rare times where everything aligns just right at the right time. We had spent 5 hours walking all over the mountain looking for Little Nicka Cave. I actually walked within 75 feet of it early in the morning when we first arrived. I saw the head wall but did not go up to check it out. After thrashing all day I got dehydrated and went back to the trucks. Finally I heard three hoots on the mountain side and went back up to see what was found. By taking so long to find the cave we were there when the late afternoon sun had just the right angle to beam through the cave. This only happens in winter when the angle of the sun is low on the horizon. Just 15 minutes later, the rays disappeared. Alan Cressler is the model.
